Mouth as consuming and expelling organ, the aperture that takes in and emits at once. A black lace veil is drawn aside; to unveil is to reveal, and what it exposes is the sacred yet obscene orifice itself, the abject the cloth kept decent. Across the face the veil's seam runs like a sutured wound, castration worn as ornament rather than carried as trauma. From the skull a fan of rays and red-tipped stalks unfurl, part pneuma, part anemone. By consuming and being consumed it understands and finally identifies itself with the recombined other, a face precipitated out of what it has swallowed, what the veil was drawn back to expose.
