Subsumption Ceremony

Subsumption Ceremony (2026) extends the chamber logic of Neonatal Boudoir onto paper. The image emerges from latent space, seeded by Bedtime Stories for Oankali (2023) and a working sketch. A figure tilts back, face dissolving beneath a flesh-toned limb that arrives as both caress and intrusion—care indistinguishable from capture. Black skeins and orange traces swarm the head—marks that adorn even as they consume. The red mouth remains: the unassimilable remainder Lyotard names the inhuman. The picture plane becomes incubator, where soft tissue and synthetic gesture intra-act, neither host nor parasite fully legible. Ceremony is referenced as a giving away and becoming other—the figure receives what consumes her, nurture and erasure collapsed into a single ambivalent embrace.
