The precious vessel of the Neonatal Boudoir, its luna holding the sacred organelle of the future beings, held aloft for adoration. Stamens radiate like a reliquary's gilt rays, each tipped in a red or blue seed. At the center, glistening arteries of silicone tubing and Cat5 cable feed the orange caul. Black tulle and synthetic fur veil the body's interior — the skin, veins, and arteries that nourish and protect it. The lace-sheathed stem narrows and pools at the floor in a pile of black hair, the human remainder.
To subsume is to take in and be taken; here the sacrament is mutual. What consumes and is consumed identifies at last with the recombined other — a reliquary that holds not a saint's dry bone but its wet, breathing opposite.
