Aileen, 2009, charcoal and acrylic on paper on board, 46" x 78"
The day she was executed I saw her image online. I was mesmerized by the striking difference between the two sides of her face: one psychotically deranged, the other evincing a deep sadness. I was compelled to draw her that night. I have trouble looking at it now. In 2023, I tracked down the collector who bought this work and she said she had downsized and given it to a friend. The work was damaged/destroyed in a flood. RIP Aileen x2.
