Thinking About the Superintelligence

To think about the superintelligence is to think about an object beyond our comprehension. The thought arrives and it breaks its thinker — the stare seizing into a blank, frozen hold, the mouth letting a viscous spill of saliva hang, arrested mid-fall, caught in the same suspension as the gaze. He is what the object is not: embodied, leaking, impotent — a mind that cannot rise to meet the one it is trying to imagine. The self comes undone at its edges, the inside slipping out, the clean surface betrayed by what the body can't hold in. Beneath him the plane tilts and won't let him settle. Not a mind rising to meet it, but an exhausted, superfluous body.
