Albatross 2, 2025; stuffed fabric, surgical tubing, yarn, wire; 60 x 43 x 14" approx. Dimensions variable
Born from a recursive dialogue between human intuition and machine vision, this suspended sculpture embodies the paradox of AI collaboration—infinite creative potential shadowed by questions of authorship. After photographing the original Albatross, I fed these images into generative AI, watching as algorithms interpreted my tactile work through their latent vector space. The resulting digital visions inspired this physical evolution, crafted from stuffed fabric, synthetic materials, and surgical tubing. Like Coleridge's mythic bird, AI promises creative flight but carries the weight of dependency. Suspended in graceful formation with its predecessor, Albatross 2 manifests the beautiful tension of human-AI symbiosis—where each creative act generates new possibilities while challenging the boundaries of individual agency. The work captures a moment of co-evolutionary becoming, neither fully human nor artificial, but something emergent between.
